Destination Wedding The Dos Donts

Destination Wedding The Dos Donts Wedding bells in your near future? If youve been dreaming about having a destination wedding, there are a few things you should know before you say, I do. From the save the dates to the gift registry, here’s the scoop on destination wedding do’s and don’ts. DO’S Send Your Save the Dates Sooner than Later Save the dates are an essential part of any wedding. But when it comes to destination weddings, these mementos are even more important. Most traditional wedding invitations are mailed eight weeks prior to the wedding and save the dates are usually mailed around four months in advance. For destination weddings, its common to send out your invitations 12 weeks in advance and your  save the dates  between six and eight months in advance. Some wedding planning experts recommend sending them as soon as you know your location and have booked your venue and accommodations. This way, your wedding guests have plenty of time to prepare their travel plans and make their own accommodations for your big day. Additionally, its not uncommon to ask for the RSVPs of your wedding guests as part of the save the date, with a traditional, more formal wedding invitation to follow. Visit the Location of your Destination Wedding Many couples land on a destination wedding location that’s special to them in some way, whether it be where they first met or a place where they took their first trip together. However, some brides and grooms-to-be opt for new-to-them locations. Ideally, youll want to have visited the location at least once prior to your wedding, and this includes a visit to your venue or hotel. Wedding planning experts advise planning this visit before booking anything and then again three to four months before the big day. If youre unable to make it out to the destination prior to your wedding and after booking, consider arriving a handful of days early ?â€" five or so is recommended ?â€" to tie up any loose ends and make sure everything is perfect and ready for the wedding. DON’TS Forget About Your Specialists Specialists such as  makeup artists, hairstylists and the like commonly travel with the bride. It’s common courtesy to cover their airfare or travel costs as well as their accommodations in addition to their service fees. While most professionals typically go over this before anything is booked, it’s important for you to bring it up in conversation and work out all of the details before committing to a contract. This way, there are no unexpected surprises. Expect to Receive Lots of Gifts Today’s modern  wedding registries  are incredibly accommodating. However, keep in mind your guests are traveling and spending some good money to see you and your betrothed say, I do, and it can get expensive. There are a number of resorts that allow wedding guests to purchase certain experiences for couples to use while on their honeymoon. You can also direct any gifts purchased from your registry to be delivered to your home or another mailing address so that both you and your guests don’t have to worry about transporting gifts. Aside from a few key factors, planning a destination wedding is very similar to planning a traditional wedding. Keep these do’s and don’ts in mind when planning yours.

Before you aim for someones job, look at the price they paid to get there

Before you aim for someones job, look at the price they paid to get there Whenever I write about grad school, someone writes in the comments about how Im just bitter that I didnt get a degree. But what Im really bitter about is that no one wanted to have sex with me. Some famous poet was a visiting professor, hitting on every grad student but me. And Leslie Epstein was there, who is not only king of the Jews but the father of Theo Epstein, a big name in baseball. Leslie said Im the best sex writer hes ever read. So why wasnt he asking me for sex? Probably because Im the master of bad sex. There is no anal penetration that I cannot ruin with a piece of poop at the end of the paragraph. So no one hit on me in grad school except maybe  Susanna Kaysen. I was starving and homeless and she was getting movie deals that included Winona Ryder riders. And if I had not been so Aspergery I would have done anything to get her to edit my memoir she is a master of the line edit. Ill always worry that my memoir could have been edited better.   But, to my point, what I learned while I was not getting hit on in grad school is to never write drunk. I dont want any of you to think that I am endorsing grad school. Here is another specimen from my collection of links about how grad school is a waste of your time. I learned not to write drunk because everyone thought theyd write better drunk but they only wrote more like themselves.  So, if youre a good writer sober, youd be a good writer drunk, but you can just write sober. Why add the extra calories? Because when your book is published you are better off looking hot. Of course. Everyone is better off looking hot, especially if they want to fuck their boss. Ive been trying to decide if I am going to use the word fuck. My husband, Matthew who now has a name on this blog- thinks its trashy. I want you to think that Im interesting in bed in a sort of trashy way and that I say fuck all the time. But I dont. Im probably really boring in bed. Im much better on paper. Oh God my editor is going to throw this whole post out for not being useful. Hes going to say, Try writing something when youre not drunk. Even in the best case hes going to say, I have to think about it. Im not sure if it works. Which always makes me write back Fuck fuck fuck. That is a common salutation to my editor. Ill say I need a post today! I havent posted in four days! I know the world does not stop to notice when I dont post in four days. But I feel like a failure. What am I doing if Im not posting? Well. Im drinking. In case you are wondering, Cassie  told me to read this book Drinking: A Love Story, which shows how easy it is to become an alcoholic, so I stopped drinking for three weeks as a check-up. So I dont think I count as an alcoholic. I’m just like one of those tiresome grad students who writes drunk except in grad school the editor is the classroom full of people who want to take you down, in front of the teacher, so the teacher will fuck them instead of you. There is a rule for my blog: the more crazy the post is, the more useful it has to be. My editor follows this rule. I gave him this rule. By the way, he is not a rule follower. Its ironic because he has this big job making sure his company follows FDA rules, he secretly sends me poems that are too hard for me to read but its clearly because there are no rules being followed. How do you judge a poem with no broken rhymes? Its okay, I think, to drink. Because Im sad. Im sad that my life has become driving my kids everywhere. Im in the car more than 48 hours a week. Its absurd. Dont do it. Itll ruin your life. So Im sad. I came home tonight. At 11pm. From driving. And I have to drive again at 9:30 am. My experience of planting corn is pulling up behind the seed truck, and taking a picture, on my way home. And remember the 20,000 bulbs I planted last fall? Ive seen them for about sixteen minutes. Because Im never home. Im driving. You cant have a nice house in the country and a good job in the city. You know that. Ive told you a hundred times. But its just like how the preacher’s daughter is always knocked up: the career coach always has a life-destroying commute. But here’s what I’ve learned, again and again: picking a career is picking a life. Look at the persons life, not the job, and decide if you want it. If so, choose their career. But watch out. I homeschool my kids and I have a husband who is home all day to help, and I live on a working farm and I have a great career. Who wouldnt want this, right? But some nights, I come home and drink. People dont tell you that. When you ask them how they got the career, they don’t mention how they drank a bottle of Chardonnay on nights when they drove too much. Remember that people will brag about what theyve achieved, but they dont brag about the price they paid to get it. So find someone who will tell you the worst parts of their life. Because its easy to see whats great about someones life. But if youre picking a career by picking a life, the only people who are useful to you are those who will tell you the bad stuff too. My editor has been fired a lot before he got his job now. I dont know if hell cut this paragraph. The thing is, he’s really good at work now. I like my editor a lot.   But if you asked my editor about what his life is like as an FDA rule enforcer, he would never tell you that he was fired from the military for misconduct. Or about the stealing. Or about how it feels like his marriage is ending. You know why I love my job? Because I just want to write that truth. It feels good to tell you what I see. I know I dont have the best social skills, but I see things clearly because I dont worry that people will hate me. But I worry that my editor will veto this post. When you look at my life, if you think you want it, remember that you will be choosing to live and die by your editor. If he cuts this post then me deciding to write while I was drinking was a total waste of time. If he approves this post, then Im a creative genius. Thats how thin a line it is between career success and career failure for me. So when youre choosing what you do, make sure you like the process. It’s a choice you can control.

Is Marketing The Right Career For You

Is Marketing The Right Career For You Marketing is an expansive and dynamic industry, with many people being attracted to the profession’s many beneficial opportunities. From solving creative challenges to relying on original thinking and applying a keen understanding of customer needs to a range of different areas, marketing is a field in which almost all skills are welcome. SEE ALSO:  Life’s Too Short For The Wrong Job To succeed within marketing, it’s vital that you have a background of experience suited to the standards you’ll need to meet on a daily basis. Fortunately, there are a number of different roles within marketing, so you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding where your skills fit best. Personality Every role within marketing will require you to use your creative flare to approach new problems and recognise potentially successful opportunities for your company. However, not only is it necessary to feel comfortable expressing your own ideas, but you also need to tactfully collaborate with other creative people to arrive at the best solution. Because of this, people with a proven track-record for working within creative teams are likely to have an advantage when entering the world of marketing. You need to be particularly determined to fight for your own ideas as well as put your energy behind somebody else’s idea when it’s selected for further development. Specific Skills Depending on which area of marketing you enter, you’ll be expected to perform any number of different duties. For some jobs, market research will be a continuing process. You’ll be expected to devise and implement strategies to accurately understand consumer needs enabling your organisation to plan more effectively in response. Media relations are another important part of most marketing positions. As you’re aiming to promote and advertise a specific company or product, it’s naturally vital that you’re able to effectively work with media partners to spread the message â€" this means you need to be comfortable writing press releases, cold calling organisations and keeping up to speed about what sort of material they publish. Qualifications Although you can certainly take academic qualifications related to marketing, many companies will be just as impressed with real-life experience related to their field and marketing jobs have numerous entry routes. People who have worked in communications, journalism or public relations often move to marketing as the skills developed in these industries are highly transferrable, allowing individuals to meet various challenges. For example, someone who has completed a Master of Science in Communication degree might be more highly sought after than an individual with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing because the communications degree is more diverse. The MS in Communication degree provides skills that are transferable to marketing, advertising, government, and not-for-profit organizations, making anyone who holds it highly employable. Many organizations want to hire people with experience in a number of different fields, rather than focusing on candidates with a degree and very little experience. Therefore, while a marketing degree can help you to get into this field, it isn’t mandatory. photo credit: Intersection Consulting via photopin cc 1

Targeted Resumes

Targeted ResumesTargeted resumes are ones that are specifically tailored to match the job you're applying for. Your resume is the most important document when it comes to getting the job you want. And unfortunately it's this one document that's usually overlooked by recruiters, and so by focusing on a single aspect of your career, you'll be able to get a great impression from potential employers. The first thing to do is look at your resume and identify exactly what the employers want and need to know, specifically about your specific skills. Once you've identified these key aspects of your career, you need to think about how you can express these to your potential employer in a way that shows your competence and experience. The problem is that so many people tend to feel as though they should just cram their career details onto their resume, or downplay the role of experiences. An effective and good way to display your knowledge and experience is to use your personal statement. You ne ed to be clear and honest about what you would like to achieve with your future career. A good practice would be to develop a style of speaking where you describe your purpose for working at the organisation and what it is that you would contribute to the success of the business. This could be an excellent approach to showing how passionate you are about the work that you're doing. The next step is to think about what it is that you're particularly good at and your interests in that particular job. You might like to tell your story, which will be a part of your Targeted Resume. In order to highlight this, you may need to write down specific information about your experiences, achievements, skills and talents. On top of the description of your experiences, it's also worth taking the time to highlight the experience and skills that you currently have, and where these relate to the work that you're doing in your current job. Finally, you need to have a summary of your achievements in thi s job. This summary of your key information is where the bulk of your information is going to come from. You need to be clear about what your objective is, and what kind of benefits your potential employer will get from hiring you. You need to be clear about your expectations and what they will be, as this will help you persuade your potential employer to take you on.The next part of the document is to highlight the experiences and key information that you include in your Summary. While your Summary is the focus of your document, you should still make sure that the skills, interests and achievements that you're highlighting are specific to the job that you're applying for. Including any of these to the job you're applying for will help to strengthen your Targeted Resume. It is always a good chance to think about how to include these key parts of your career into your Targeted Resume. By focusing on a single aspect of your career, you'll be able to get a more detailed and more comprehe nsive resume.

Surefire Ways To Guarantee You Impress A Potential Employer - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

Surefire Ways To Guarantee You Impress A Potential Employer When you go after a job, you need to think about yourself as a marketable product. That’s essentially what you’re doing when you hunt for a new position. You’re selling yourself and what you could offer to a potential employer. An interview is all about saying, here I am, here’s what I can offer and here’s why you’d be lucky to have me. If an interview goes right, they’ll call you back straight away. You’ll have given them exactly what they wanted. The question here then is what exactly to employers want. Believe it or not, the answer isn’t complex, nor is it unique for each employer. You can impress any employer by making sure that you tick off these crucial boxes. A USP If you’re selling a product, and you are, you need a USP. This is a unique selling point. Something you can bring to the table that no one else can. There’s plenty of options here and the fact is, you probably already have a USP. You may just not recognise it as such. An example would be a gap year working in Africa helping a local community. This shows a number of things to an employer. It shows that you have initiative, a desire to help people. It also demonstrates that you can thrive in tough environments. Being part of a sports team could also be a USP. Particularly, if you have achieved success in this area or you are in a notable position. Evidence Of Progression You must show potential employers that you are not simply standing still. Business employees make this mistake all the time. Once they get a job, they stop working for the next one. They don’t go on training courses or boost their skills. You should be doing this every year, building up your resume with new achievements. Better yet, you can provide evidence for this clearly using CPD management. That way, your Continuing Professional Development can be tracked and viewed by a new employer. This could even lead to you getting headhunted for a position. A Perfect Fit Did you know that most employers choose whether they’re going to hire someone within two minutes of meeting them? It’s true because they know then whether or not that person is a good fit. So, how can you ensure that you are seen as a good fit for the business? Well, you need to show confidence, charisma, and you need to be charming. Shake their hand firmly and greet them warmly. Ask how they are and open with a comment about the business. Or, a topic that is relevant to the company. For instance, you could mention reading of one of their achievements the previous morning. Even if you don’t answer all the questions correctly, clicking could guarantee you the position. Style And Appearance It’s human nature to be attracted to people who look stylish, well dressed or well groomed. As such, if you can meet these targets, then you are more likely to be hired. Perceptions do matter, and you must make sure employers want you to represent their business.
